Overview

The project pursues four objectives:

  1. Build a model system based on radiation-generated exciplexes of substituted diphenylacetylenes in solvents of different viscosity, as a route to new materials for organic light emitting diodes with improved photophysical characteristics.
  2. Determine how substituents affect the spectral characteristics of the emission of radiation-generated exciplexes, using donor- or acceptor-substituted diphenylacetylenes paired with N,N-dimethylaniline in solvents of different viscosity.
  3. Develop an approach to the functionalisation of organic optoelectronic devices by studying the magnetosensitivity of the luminescence of diphenylacetylene exciplexes.
  4. Determine the role of intramolecular excimer formation in 1,3-diaryl-substituted propanes under X-ray irradiation of non-polar solutions, in order to study emission generation in polymer-based light emitting diodes.
