Overview

The project is aimed at a systematic study of the luminescent properties of fluorine-containing derivatives of the simplest diphenylacetylenes and of their exciplexes with aromatic amines, and at determining the magnetic resonance characteristics of the radical ions of these molecules. A wide set of photochemical and spin-chemical experimental techniques is used to reach the goals of the project: optically detected EPR, MARY spectroscopy, stationary spectrally resolved magnetic field effect, and fluorescence spectroscopy.

The study will fill the gaps in the understanding of the photophysical properties of fluorine-containing derivatives of the simplest diphenylacetylenes, determine how strongly the substituents affect the luminescent characteristics of these molecules and of their exciplexes with aromatic amines, establish the detailed mechanism of excited complex formation, and determine how the efficiency of exciplex formation depends on the number and position of fluorine atoms in the molecule under study. All the expected scientific results are new, original and relevant for specialists in photochemistry, radiation chemistry and spin chemistry. In the longer term, the methods and approaches used in the project, together with the results obtained, may help to optimise the charge transport and emission generation systems of organic light emitting diodes, and serve as a basis for studying various fluorine-containing poly(p-phenyleneethynylene)s.
